Celebrations(!!)

This may be a bit of a Kelsey rambling; just fair warning.

Let's talk celebrations. The word itself brings up a different picture in each person's mind; what's it bring to yours? You see, sometimes I think we don't celebrate enough. That's right, in a country with everything from National Donut Day to National Running Day, I'm demanding we do more celebrating. Perhaps Certainly I'm a little bit crazy, but hear me out on this.

We get so caught up in racing towards each important day/deadline/goal that when we finally reach it, we tend to accidentally blaze by without pausing for a bit to relish in making it. New jobs, good grades, nailing an interview, hitting a new squat max, having exceptionally wonderful friends, these all call for celebration. Call me cheesy (I know you will) but time goes fast and we won't always have "later" to celebrate. So do it now! You don't have to throw a huge rager (but by all means, do it if you're feeling it!), its just about taking time from doing your "normal" to appreciate the good stuff. Need ideas? Here are a few that make me smile:

~make homemade margaritas and guacamole (my best friends do this best)
~make a toast at the dinner table, whether its over stuffed peppers or spaghetti squash, its the words that count
~buy new socks; they always get me pumped up (better make sure they are patterned and awesome)
~rent your favorite movie and pass no judgment on yourself for your choice (Bring It On, yes?!)
~throw a dinner party with your closest friends (this girl is honestly a pro)
~take 15 extra minutes to make a bomb breakfast in the morning (recipe ideas!)
~make a scrumptious dessert and bring it to a friend (I get so excited to bring people goodies; perfect celebrating material)
~buy some sparklers to burn and marshmallows to roast. The seven-year-old lifestyle never stopped being awesome.
~invest in a new version of one of your fave staple items: mascara/book/sharpie/coffee mug/phone case (this way you'll do a mini-celebration every time you see the item)

The list could go on, but you get the gist; make it something that makes you happy! Or, if you're celebrating for someone else, what makes him or her happy! My last celebration was post-half marathon, and it included an afternoon of sitting on the couch with a great book, an iced coffee, and ice on my knees; perfection.

Father's Day is this Sunday, and that's a definite reason to celebrate. Dads are the coolest, with their innate sense of grilling steak to perfection, the confidence-boosting move of buying out your lemonade stand in a traffic-less neighborhood, and the seemingly-effortless pieces of well-spoken wisdom and calm spoken at all the right times. These skills are not easy to come by, and a dad of such caliber deserves a well-thrown celebration, complete with non-tie gift! ;)

Have I amped you up to go celebrate something yet?! If not, I'll be back sometime in the next few days with a new, well-loved (and husband-approved) breakfast recipe to share. Voila, celebrating with oatmeal! Until then, enjoy your sparklers. ;)
